As soon as I saw the photo i felt a stitch at the stomach, like when we have to take an important choice which we know that it's decision is really important and we don't have enough time to weigh the consequences. Luckly when we have to face choices about life and death, nature calls us to remember us that there is still something to live for, something to go on. It's like it says: "No, wait! Don't do that... there is still light in your life, it's not yet your time." This is what the softlight towards the ladybird and the small leaf where she stand meant to me, to set one's hopes to go on. On the opposite the darken and blured background, let me understand how death is uncertain and confused, it tells me that death is not a solution.
I really like the distribution of the light and the atmosphere which creates in contrast with the darkness on the left, it underline the thin line between life and death, light and darkness. The focus point is pretty good, anyway is a good thing that is centered on the ladybird to emphasize how she is the star of the scene, how she is the one which will take the choice. On my opinion a slightly greater depth of field would have been better to keep focus even a bit on the leaf where the ladybird lays, to emphasize that life is concrete and solid, while death is only a blurred shadow.
Good photography, but especially is very very good the conceptualization.
